Pittsburgh Institute of Biblical Studies

PIBS Class Schedule & Registration Form

Brief History The Pittsburgh Institute of Biblical Studies (PIBS)  formerly the Pittsburgh Laymen’s Bible Institute (PLBI) was the vision of Dr. William R. Glaze, who sought to transform the urban community through Bible-based education. The education of teachers and counselors began in 1974, using a three-year curriculum studying premarital, marital, family, and emotional needs and the Bible. Before the Institute was formally founded in 2001, Bethany Church had a significant number of well-educated faculty, certified by the National Association of Biblical Counselors. The Church also had built an educational facility with 16 classrooms, offices, a bookstore, and a computer lab.

Mission The mission of Pittsburgh Institute of Biblical Studies (PIBS)  is to equip believers to rightly divide the Word of God and prepare them for ministry as godly servants in the body of Christ, thereby enabling them to evangelize the lost, minister to the saints, and defend the Christian faith.

Doctrinal Statement We believe in the Trinity, one God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three are co-equal in essence, power, and eternity.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We believe that each word in the original Autographs is fully inspired by God and without error. Further we believe that it is the supreme revelation of God’s will for man, and is our only rule of life and practice.

We believe in the Deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, His miracles, His death upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of the world, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal pre-millennial and imminent return in power and glory.

We believe that salvation for mankind has been provided by God, through His grace, for all who put their faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, thereby being cleansed of their sins, and Becoming a New creation in Him.
