In this Psalm David gives tremendous insight into overcoming self.  In this little three verse Psalm he gives a powerful process for doing so—the recognition of self (1), the removal of self (2) and the replacement of self.  Surely this is something that he learned in his lifetime whether by experience, observation or revelation
