As David looked back over his life he marveled how the Lord watched over him and met his needs.  Being a shepherd, he took the occasion to write this psalm and liken the Lord’s care for him to that of a sheep for a shepherd.  In this psalm, David answers the question, “What do you have when the Lord is your Shepherd?”
