BACKGROUND TO THE MATTHEW 21:1-11
Jesus was in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Passover.  There were over a quarter million Jews in the city also for this Feast.  This was the same day that the lamb was selected to be killed during Passover.  Jesus is riding on a donkey into the city to offer Himself as the Lamb of God.  The people misunderstood and thought He was coming as a conquering king, that’s why they shouted “Hosanna” meaning “Save or Deliver Now.”
