Fresh Start New Beginnings

Diakonia Ministries has celebrated its 18th anniversary as the non-profit 501c(3) of Bethany Baptist Church. The name, Diakonia, is the Greek word for “service” and it is a response to the challenging message found in 1 Peter 4:8-10: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

In general we have found that the name, Diakonia, has not effectively communicated who we are or what we do; therefore after much prayer and deliberation, the Diakonia Board has decided to: “To Strengthen, Equip and Encourage the Homewood Community with Hope through God’s Love” Fresh Start New Beginnings.

There will be a Special Celebration of Volunteers on Sunday, June 11th during the worship service, and following the service we will be holding our “Soup’s On” fundraiser to benefit Master’s Kitchen and Food Pantry. If there are any “Soup Chefs” in the congregation that would be able to prepare soup for 20 people, please let Inez Miles or Mark Corbin know you are interested. Please put this special event on your schedule so you can join us for some soup and fun following the service. All volunteers/staff are asked to be in attendance.

Our Ministry exists to transform the lives of the residents of the Homewood community by providing various human services, counseling and education as a tangible expression of the love of Jesus Christ. We are inviting everyone to prayerfully consider how you can become an ongoing financial supporter of this ministry and join us in our efforts to reach our neighborhood in a more impactful way.
