Course Descriptions

American Sign Language

(ASL-1, ASL-2, ASL-3, ASL-4)

The American Sign Language courses are a means of introducing students to the deaf culture and sign language. Signing in a religious environment is also included in the course work. Students will be exposed to deaf culture and socialization by attending deaf events. Upon completion of the PIBS sign language curriculum, students will have the ability to communicate with deaf people with an understanding of deaf culture and introduce them to the gospel of Jesus.

Navigating The Digital Landscape – For Faith and Study
via ZOOM

In the contemporary age, the internet has blossomed into a vast garden of information,
offering seekers of theological wisdom boundless opportunities. Yet, as with all gardens, it
contains both blossoms of insight and thorns of misinformation. This class is designed to
equip students, ministers, and laypersons to navigate the internet with confidence and
faithfulness in search of theological resources. Furthermore, this course will foster skill in
identifying trustworthy sources, engaging with digital communities, and integrating online
finds into study or devotional settings.

RIGHT TO LIFE/RIGHT TO CHOOSE

The issue of abortion has been a challenging subject for the last several decades. The discussion is usually broken down between the right of the unborn to live and the right of the mother to have autonomy of her own body and make her own decisions regarding family. In this course, we will address this important issue and look at it from several perspectives and the impact that it has had on society. We will look at this subject to gain a more comprehensive perspective but also consider the information on this topic in light of God’s Word.

Dealing With Grief

This Zoom class is for people experiencing grief.  It will look at dealing with grief from a Biblical perspective.  Topics explored will be what the Bible has to say about grief, victims of violence and crime, identifying the different types of grief, how to get help for grieving dhildren and healthy grieving.  This class will draw on the expertise of Biblical and trained grief counselors.

BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY
A Study of Archaeological Finds That Support the Bible

Critics claim that some of the details in the Bible are inaccurate such as people, places, and events described
within its pages. Did the writers of the Bible get these things right or wrong? In this class, we will examine
archaeological discoveries that support cultures, customs, civilizations, and occurrences found in the Bible. After
taking this class, you will know some key Biblical archaeological discoveries, where they can be found, and their
significance. This will go a long way in supporting: (1) the truth of the Scriptures and (2) the believer’s faith i n the
Word of God

Apologetics

The Bible and the Christian faith are under attack.  Many believers either do not know how to handle these attacks or are simply walking away from the faith. This six-week class equips the people of God to address major attacks coming from the enemy. This course in Apologetics (defending the Christian faith) deals with such topics as Why We Can Trust the Bible, Major Flaws of Evolutionary Theories, Biblical Evidence for Creationism, The Person and Deity of Jesus Christ, The Unique Issues Facing African-Americans from an Apologetic Perspective, and much more. This class is for those desiring to grow in their ability to stand firm in the Christian faith, including college students, teens, and parents. The textbook is by Dr. William R. Glaze, Pastor, Author, and host of the “Anchored in Jesus” Radio Broadcast and was designed specifically for the class.

Biblical Counseling

 This Program is certified by Christian Research and Development

(BC-1, BC-2, BC-3, BC-4)   

 A three-year biblical counseling program designed to train you to solve problems God’s way.  You will learn to counsel yourself first, and then others.  Students will learn how to analyze counseling cases, questioning techniques, and deal with many other counseling issues.  This program equips you to become a counselor using the word of God under the direction of the local church.  Upon completion of the program, you will receive certification as a Biblical Counselor.

    • PIBS is offering one class this term. It is Apologetics, starting tomorrow, the 7th at 7:00 on zoom. You can register online from the Bethany website, main page near the bottom.
